World Hypertension Day: FAJIM Foundation Conducts Free Medical Tests for Lagos Residents
World Hypertension Day is a day designated and initiated by The World Hypertension League, which is itself an umbrella to organizations of 85 national hypertension societies and leagues. The day was initiated to increase the awareness of hypertension.
In commemoration of the World Hypertension Day, a non- governmental organization, FAJIM Medicare Foundation on 15th May 2021, made a gesture of free medical outreach to residents of Ilasamaja, Mushin, Lagos.
In the process, over 140 people were had the privilege of being tested for different types of ailments that include hypertension, diabetes, hepatitis and HIV.
Women also had opportunity of having a clinical breast examination for cancer while men equally got screened for prostate cancer. In this same vein, consultation and free drugs were given to those who had complaints and those with severe ailments were referred for specialists’ care.
Another exciting and impactful activity of the programme was the part where founder of FAJIM, Professor Fatima Abdulkareem gave an extensive talk on hypertension, its causes, prevention and management. She also took time to attend to questions asked by participants.
By the virtue of her status, Professor Fatima Abdulkareem, a pathologist consultant at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, sure has a means of living a life of her desire with her family, but as a compassionate individual who equally understands God’s disposition towards caring for others, especially, the less fortunate ones, this devote Muslim, few years back decided to take it upon herself to lend helping hand to people as it regards their health. She therefore founded FAJIM Medicare Foundation, a platform through which health care assistance is rendered to members of the public.
In about three years the NGO has been founded, it has conducted free different types of tests for 2553 people, treated 858 people and given out 14 scholarships.
